If you are a small business owner and have one or more employees working for you more than 24 hours per month, you need to be registered as an employer with the Department of Labour, and contribute towards the fund.
We will assist you with registration for you as the Employer, as well as your Employees.
We can also assist with calculation of your UIF arrear payments and advise you on payment information and how to proceed, once you are registered.
We charge a once-off service fee of R850 for up to 10 Employees.
Your UIF responsibilities as an employer
As an employer you need to pay a total of 2% of your employess salary to the UIF.
1% must be your own contribution and the other 1% comes from the employee. It is the business's responsibilty to pay over the full 2% though.This payment must be made before the 7th of every month. This is paid directly to the Department of Labour and not to us.

1. What is the Compensation Fund and when must a business register for it?
The Compensation Fund also known as Workman’s Compensation or COIDA (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act) is a government institution put in place to protect employees and employers should an injury/disease/death occur to any employee "in the line of duty".
According to labour law as soon as a business employs a worker (can only be one), the business must register with the Compensation Fund.
2. Does the business or the employees register with the Compensation Fund?
The business is registered with the Compensation Fund. The Compensation Fund registration number is registered in the business name and will stand until de-registered.
3. What are the consequences for my business if I am not registered with the Compensation Fund?
Apart from being non-compliant to labour laws laws the business can face huge fines or even prosecution for not complying with the Act . The business can be held responsible for huge amounts of money due to claims relating to injury on duty, diseases or death from an employee.
4. What happens after my business has been registered with the Compensation Fund?
A Return of Earnings form must be submitted to COIDA annually. Based on the amount of earnings (salaries) paid to employees and members, and the category the business falls under an assessment will be raised and become payable.
5. What do I need to do and what does Coida Letter SA do?

6. Can I get a letter of good standing once registered?
Once the assessment(s) has been paid a letter of good standing will be issued.
